Within us all, I believe, is a deep desire for justice. It is present even in very young children as they cry out ‘That’s not fair!’, ‘It’s not fair!’ All of us are able to sniff out injustice and we naturally focus on the need for wrongs to be righted, losses to be repaid, and offenders to be caught, convicted and punished.
Needless to say, the theme of justice and judgement goes right through the Bible. But what is justice and is it possible in this life? What about the Biblical theme of rewards and punishments, laws and justice under the Old and New Covenants, and the ‘Day of Judgement?’ And what is our emotional response to injustice?
As Christians, how are we justified (declared to be right) in God’s sight and what are the benefits for those of us who believe?
