One of the key themes in the Bible is rebuilding after destruction and restoration after desolation. We need to hold these opposites together to understand how God is at work in our global, international, national, local and personal circumstances.
This dynamic is also, I believe, hardwired into our psyche as human beings. We are blessed with the ability to create great art, architecture, technology etc. yet, at the same time, cursed with the catastrophic ability to destroy everything.
Pastorally, it is important to keep things in balance. Too much emphasis on destruction and desolation will lead to despair, so this reality needs to be balanced with the optimism of rebuilding and restoration which brings hope.
Thank God that the Bible has this balance throughout!
